Love of the poor
From the very beginning, the Congregation has considered the service of the needy as being the particular hallmark of the Institute.
"Remember, my dear daughters, that the moment we lose our love for the poor we lose the spirit which is ours."
(Elisabeth Bruyère, biographical notice, vol. 1)
We commit ourselves at various levels: relief assistance through thrift shops and food pantries, etc.; human promotion through education, formation, etc.; social justice awareness, taking stands on social issues, participation; solidarity through partnerships, involvement in actions which lead to the transformation of the causes of oppression and exclusion.
Called to resemble Jesus Christ, we seek to recognize him in the many faces of the needy so as to be signs of his presence and his love.
"Sisters of Charity, you have promised to love our Lord in the person of the poor for whom you care and of the children you educate." (Elisabeth Bruyère, December 24, 1875)
