Mother House

Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa. Its imposing structure stands at the corner of Sussex Drive and Bruyère Street.

The Mother House of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, at the corner of Sussex and Bruyère, is among the oldest buildings in Lower Ottawa. In 1995, the Congregation inaugurated its Historical Site which permanently houses precious mementos preserved since the arrival of the Sisters in Bytown in 1845.

The main attraction of this small historical museum can be found in its unique collection, revealing history closely tied to the history of the National Capital.

Two viewing rooms accessible to visitors:

- a large permanent exposition which displays mementos from the first three decades of our history (1845 - 1876)
- a temporary exposition of more recent articles that still have some interest for the visitors.
