Shelters for the typhus victims, summer of 1847

 

It was on this very site that the sheds were built to receive the Irish immigrants who were victims of the typhus and who arrived in Bytown during the summer of 1847.  Since the Immigration Bureau had entrusted their care to the Sisters, it became the main occupation of the latter to bathe and care for the stricken.
